Caffine & Photoshop

Posted in Artistic Endeavors on November 23, 2007 by Patti

Twice in one day again… somebody might think I’m digging this blogging thing.

I realized 2 things – I’ve posted no art yesterday or today & I finished a Photoshop piece the other night while I was way caffinated and unable to sleep.

I call it If You See the Bunny on the Road…

What can I tell you? Caffine makes me punchy – but I do like this piece. It makes me smile. Chalk it up to my version of whimsey.

Turkey Hangover

Posted in Everyday Stuff on November 23, 2007 by Patti

Thanksgivng yesterday. It was a lovely day here – house full of friends & family, puttering about in the kitchen, lazy evening on the couch with TiVo & leftovers.

Today is a lazy one, too. I’m going to get spoiled if I’m not careful. We always pass on the shopping frenzy and opt for movies & polishing off the last of the turkey & pumpkin pie.

I hope Thanksgiving was as lovely for everyone as it was here, and now I am off to shower and dress and head out to see No Country for Old Men with my hubby and a couple of friends… and eventually find my way back to the couch & the turkey.

Yay Thanksgiving!

Guilty Pleasures

Posted in Everyday Stuff on November 22, 2007 by Patti

I thought that instead of sharing the things I am most thankful for today – cause, let’s face it, it’s been done – I would change things up a bit and share a few of the things that I am also thankful for… but ashamed to admit to.

We all have those guilty pleasures that we indulge in behind drawn curtains & hope no one ever asks about. Here are a few of mine…

~ tacky souvenier shops & the kitsch you bring home from them

~ reality TV

~ Barry Manilow

~ butter fudge

~ Beanie Weenies

~ Paris Hilton’s single Stars Are Blind – it’s catchy, what can I tell you?

~ spending a day in my pajamas mindlessly surfing on the laptop

~ fan fiction

~ Golden Throats cd’s – celebrities do horrid covers of songs you know but wish you’d never heard quite like this

~ super market tabloids

~ yard gnomes

~ Ishtar – I thought it was hilarious! I actually own a copy.

~ Rachel Ray’s morning tv show

~ the Shopaholic novels by Sophie Kinsella

~ bad puns

~ Adam Sandler movies

~ ABBA

Happy Thanksgiving.

Calm

Posted in Everyday Stuff on November 21, 2007 by Patti

My day – I guess technically it was yesterday now – turned out to be not nearly as hectic as I had anticipated. It was pretty nice, actually. I was reunited with my car without too much fuss, the lines at the grocery store were not so overwhelming, I was successful in my quest for dessert forks & even managed to get a little more Christmas shopping done before my dance lessons. Dinner was pretty good – tried a Polish restaurant that we hadn’t been to before – and the company was lovely.

Spent the rest of my evening catching up on a little TiVo… Dancing With the Stars & the Bachelor.

Was looking for a photo and found this one in the folder along with my original target. Thought I might share…

I’m thinking maybe I shouldn’t have had that coffee after dinner. C’est la vie – I’m off to see what trouble I can get into in Photoshop until I decide I’m sleepy enough to go to bed.

And the joy continues…

Posted in Everyday Stuff on November 20, 2007 by Patti

So I expect this to be yet another hectic day, but I wanted to check in before things get really frantic.

Yesterday was nuts! My car decided to start making really disturbing sounds, and I was afraid my suspension or my tire rods were about to do very bad things. Luckily, the mechanics called this morning, and it wasn’t as bad as I had feared. I do require 2 new tires, but I can have the car back this afternoon. That is both good & bad news… I was kind of looking forward to taking advantage of the fact that my son gets home from college for the Thanksgiving holiday this afternoon. After all, I chauffered him about enough when he was in high school – only good karma to allow him to return the favor, right?

We also realized yesterday while counting sliverware that we have somehow managed to misplace some dessert forks & made a run to a Crate & Barrel at the mall in a nearby town to try to shore up our supply. Sadly, it was a wasted effort, as our pattern seems to have been discontinued. I must figure out how to correct this problem today, along with picking up the turkey and other Thanksgiving feast necessities, having back to back dance lessons with both of my teachers this afternoon before the studio closes for the holiday, and meeting friends for dinner at 6. Not so bad on the face of it, but running back & forth to accomodate everyone’s timing & transportation needs makes it more complex than it really should be. Damn car trouble! Did I mention picking up the hubby from work at lunchtime – between meetings – so he can take me to retrieve my car?

I have spent the morning trying to get up to date on my email & doing some catalogue shopping for Christmas – I like to get the things that will have to ship out of the way early, so I’m not sweating it on the back end.

I have a full & exciting day ahead of me, so I suppose I should take a breath and go jump into it – but maybe just a little something decorative before I go…

Long Day

Posted in Everyday Stuff on November 19, 2007 by Patti

Well, it’s just after 11pm and this has been a very long day… car trouble, a last minute trip to a neighboring town for last minute Thanksgiving arrangements. I promise a longer post tomorrow, but right now all I want is to go to bed.

Best Laid Plans

It’s mid-afternoon already, and guess where I am not

Yep, haven’t set foot in my studio all day. I decided to do a little work here on the old blog, though. If you will take note, my links have grown & mysteriously organized themselves into categories. All of this inevitably led to new discoveries, so I have had a lovely time blog surfing.

You cannot see the evidence of my other efforts, but I have also given my dog Lily a bath – she rolled in something dead and then came bounding in to cuddle with her mama – and I have done a good deal of my Christmas shopping online.

Somehow, it just seems like a day to snuggle up indoors with a nice cup of tea, a still slightly damp dog, & my trusty laptop.

Hooray for lazy Sundays!

Couldn’t resist just 1 more class…

Posted in Everyday Stuff on November 17, 2007 by Patti

I registered for Art & Soul early the other afternoon – got in and out of the system before the volume crashed it & they had to shut down for a bit, but I did go back after it was up again and noticed a space in Drawing Blast with Carla Sonheim. I remember several people in Portland doing an evening drawing class & really digging it. I have no idea if this is the same instructor, but the class looks way nifty, so I have signed up for an uneven 7.

Not sure if it’s a good idea to load up my schedule with both day & evening classes – may get a little overwhelmed. But, hey, I get to spend the next 2 weeks at the beach, so I’ll have plenty of time to recover.

Sadly, I didn’t have time to do much that was artistic today. Had family in town and promised my famous sweet potato pie since we won’t see them at Thanksgiving – so I baked this afternoon.

I did do one extra page for the skinny book swap – got an email that they arrived and I had miscounted, so did a little scrambling to produce that final page so I can get it in the mail first thing Monday.

Tomorrow, the goal is to actually get some work done out in my studio. Wish me luck with the organization wars. I’ll let you know how it went tomorrow night… perhaps if I get enough done, there will even be pictures.

Skinny Book Swap

Posted in Artistic Endeavors on November 16, 2007 by Patti

I just mailed off a set of pages for a Skinny Book swap yesterday. Signed up months ago through Altered Abby and have been very bad about pushing my deadline because I was mailing to a local address. It all worked out, though, because the pages are safely off to our hostess and my dining room table is once again free of the evidence of my art – just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Good thing, too – we are cooking for a crowd of 9 this year, so we’ll need the space.

Why were you doing art on the dining room table, you may ask? Because I am still avoiding the studio organization task. *hangs head in shame* Making art is just so much more fun than organizing your work space! I know, I know… must clean studio. And I will… eventually.

In the meantime, wanna see the art I made in the dining room?

I used this project as an excuse to really play with the some of the gesso techniques I learned in that workshop with Angela Cartwright. So much fun! This pic doesn’t really do justice to the full glory of the texture, but I managed to get a pretty spiffy effect.

I am all about the gesso right now. Just bought the Costco sized tub at the local Studio Supply store. I have the perfect spot to store it, too … just as soon as I clear some space in my studio.

Registered for Art & Soul!

Posted in Uncategorized on November 15, 2007 by Patti

Yay! I am officially registered for Art & Soul in Hampton, Va this coming May! *does brief happy dance*

I was hovering over my computer promptly at 4pm and managed to get all the classes I was jonesing for. Yay me!

I’m taking Transparency Collage-ssemblage & Creative Outlets with Michael de Meng, Chain Gang with Stephanie Lee, Graffiti Idea Book with Traci Bautista, Printing Blocks MacGyver Style with Traci Bunkers, & a Silver PMC Byzantine Chain Bracelet class with Sherri Haab & Scott David Plumlee.

I’m also booked at the hotel and good to go, so no worries here. I registered at the last minute for Portland and swore never again.

Wow! Registration hasn’t been open an hour and already all of the Sally Jean Alexander classes are closed! They were all closed by the time I finished my registration. One of my de Meng classes is closed, too. Gotta be fast.

*more happy dancing*
